Black cumin belongs to the buttercup family and is mainly native to the Middle East, India, Turkey, Egypt and Greece. In Europe it is also used as an ornamental plant. Other species include the Damascus black cumin (Nigella damascena) and the field black cumin (Nigella arvensis).
Black cumin oil is very concentrated due to the essential oil it contains, but this is mainly what gives it its scent and effectiveness.
